Drafted by Cleveland in the 13th round, 2009.
Had a 6-2 record, 10 saves and 2.90 ERA in 28 appearances, all in relief at Washington State as a redshirt junior in 2009. In 59 innings, allowed 52 hits and 11 walks, striking out 62. Also hit 10 batters and threw three wild pitches. His wins plus saves total of 16 tied a school record held by Joe McIntosh (13 wins/three saves in 1973) and John Olerud (15 wins/one save in 1988).
Johnson missed the entire 2008 season with a right forearm injury. ... As a freshman in 2006, he was 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 12 games including one start ... In his sophomore season, he went 0-1 with a 5.28 ERA in 12 games including one start in 2007.
He is the seventh Cougar to be drafted by the Indians. LHP Rick Austin was a first round pick in 1968. Other WSU players taken by Cleveland include RHP Eric Wilkins (sixth round, 1977), INF Bruce Chaney (44th, 1979), C/1B Andy Alvis (33th, 1980), OF Brad Wolten (34th, 1986) and RHP Ken Day (33rd, 1990). Austin and Wilkins eventually played for the Indians.
