2006: Derrick is a strong candidate to start at strong (SAM)
linebacker, replacing two-year starter Keith Ellison...excelled on special
teams...a physical player with good speed...one of the premier punt blockers in
the league, entering the year with three.
2005: Derrick played in all 12 games...his ability was recognized by
the Pac-10 coaches as they named him to the all-conference second team for his
play on special teams...quietly was the team’s fifth-leading tackler with 42...a
career-high 11 tackles vs. Boise State...blocked a punt in the fourth quarter at
Oregon...forced Stanford receiver Michael Horgan to fumble late in the second
quarter...made his lone career interception in the third quarter against
Portland State, setting up a Beaver touchdown.
2004: Derrick played on special teams and as a backup at
linebacker...13 tackles for the season...season-high two tackles vs. Boise
State, Washington, Washington State and Notre Dame...team leader for blocked
kicks with two (punts) – vs. New Mexico and Notre Dame...his blocked punt vs.
Notre Dame in the Insight Bowl led to OSU’s second touchdown two plays later.
