| Biography: |
| Named 2005-06 Prep Male Athlete of the Year by both the Seattle Times and Tacoma News Tribune. He excelled in three sports -- football, wrestling, and track and field.
In football, Kooyman was a first-team All-State pick, a consensus All-Area selection, and a two-time all-league choice on both offense and defense – as well as league Defensive Lineman of the Year two successive seasons. As a prep senior in 2005 he racked up 63 tackles, including a league leading 16 tackles for loss. In wrestling, he won the state Class 4A title at 215 pounds in 2006 and the state title at 189 pounds in 2005. In track and field, he finished No. 8 in the state in the shot put and narrowly missed qualifying for the 110 meter high hurdles. Kooyman bench presses 300 pounds and squats 500. He's also a straight-A student. |
