Acquired: Draft, Round 3 (76th overall), 2005

OVERVIEW A two-year starter, Karl has been known for his press coverage ability. He lettered twice as a defensive back and wide receiver at Culver City High School, where he was more recognized for his track exploits in the 200-meter dash.

He performed mostly on special teams his first year at Washington State before starting several games the following season. He manned the left cornerback position in his last two years, earning All-Pac 10 Conference recognition as a senior. In 48 games with the Cougars, he started 27 times. Paymah recorded 129 tackles (96 solos) with three interceptions and 21 pass deflections during his time at WSU.

POSITIVES

Has good size, playing speed, strength and athletic ability for the position... Displays a smooth backpedal with good breaking and closing ability on the ball...Has the quickness and agility to turn and run with the receiver...Has a the ability to accelerate on the the deep ball...Shows good vision and reaction to plays in front of him...Has the strength and size to press the receivers at the line of scrimmage...Has the body control and balance to recover on the move and good quickness to string plays out.

Lacks good transition and is slow out of turns at times...Has adequate ball awareness and will sometimes lose sight of the receiver, resulting in the the big catch and big play...Will get out of position give up plays...Has decent man coverage skills, but lacks good awareness in zone coverage...Will support the run and make tackles, but he will duck hit head and miss tackles...He is sometimes slow out of his turn, which causes him to struggle with the fade route.

2004 SEASON

Selected to play in the annual East-West Shrine Game...All-Pacific-10 Conference honor-able mention...One of two returning defensive starters, lining up for every game at left cornerback...Recorded 35 tackles (28 solos) with two interceptions for 5 yards in returns and also deflected eight passes.

2003 SEASON

Started every game, recording 55 tackles (39 solos) with a stop behind the line of scrimmage and a fumble recovery...Intercepted a pass and deflected ten others...Earned Cougar Tackler Award honors vs. Colorado and Defensive Back of the Week accolades vs. Southern California and Arizona State.

2002 SEASON

Played in twelve games, starting three contests...Finished with 25 tackles (18 solos) and three pass deflections...Missed the Nevada game because of an ankle sprain, then returned to action against Idaho...Made two tackles vs. Montana State...Earned his first start of the year came against Arizona State when he had a season-high seven tackles and a pass deflection while taking over for the injured Jason David...Had a season-high eight tackles vs. Washington.

2001 SEASON

Played in every game as a reserve cornerback, posting 14 tackles (11 solos)...Earned Academic All-Pac 10 Conference honors...Had four tackles vs. Idaho and three hits vs. Arizona State...Added a solo tackle vs. Purdue in the Sun Bowl.

2000 SEASON

Redshirted as a freshman.
