USC 101: Sark's road woes a boon to Cougs?

USC 101: Sark's road woes a boon to Cougs?

STEVE SARKISIAN HAS TAKEN over a talented but unpredictable team. On one hand, the Trojans are just 13 points away from being undefeated, but they are also just two short field goals away from 3-5. Though they are no longer under sanctions, depth remains a concern. Coug fans may be disheartened after last week's thrashing, but should bear in mind that Sarkisian is a famously bad road game coach.

KYRIN PRIESTER

WSU visitor looking for second chance

WHEN WASHINGTON STATE hosts USC this weekend, an interesting recruit will be on hand for an official visit. Former Clemson wide receiver Kyrin Priester, who was dismissed by the Tigers earlier this fall, will arrive to Pullman on Friday, he told Cougfan.com. The former three-star recruit is hearing from two Pac-12 schools, but says WSU is the program showing him the most love.

WSU Practice: Loud and proud

WSU Practice: Loud and proud

PULLMAN— A steady diet of chatter emanated from the practice field on Wednesday as the Cougar football team, and especially the defense, came out burning like a fire. Ivan McLennan shouted from within a spirited huddle for the second straight day, and the defense looked stout for most of the time against the scout offense. But don’t forget about the WSU offense, either. They looked good, too.

PULLMAN -- Mike Leach after a spirited Wednesday practice session lauded the season-long work of Connor Halliday. He also said USC and some of the other Pac-12 defenses don't always get their due.

A FOOTBALL PLAYER is often told by his coaches to never look forward. But if the Cougar program took just a quick glance at their remaining schedule, it might actually be beneficial.

BRENDON HAYES

New Orleans DE has Cougs in top three

IT WAS LAST WEEK that the Washington State staff extended an offer to Louisiana defensive end Brendon Hayes. The Cougs spot recruit that region, though, so it might seem like a long shot for WSU to ultimately land the 6-4, 250-pounder out of Bayou Country, right? Wrong, he told Cougfan.com.

The Heisman has changed, Mike Leach says

The Heisman has changed, Mike Leach says

PULLMAN — Let's be clear, Washington State head coach Mike Leach noted Tuesday when asked about Connor Halliday and the Heisman Trophy. The award doesn't go to the best player in college football. It goes to the best player on one of the handful of teams contending for the national championship. And he offered up a history lesson about a Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers legend to make his point.

PULLMAN — The big news of the day came at the end of Tuesday’s practice when coach Mike Leach said wide receiver Kristoff Williams is no longer on Washington State's roster. But there was another face on the field very familiar in Cougar Nation: former WSU coach Mike Price delivered an animated speech to the team before practice got under way, and that gave way to a spirited session.

PULLMAN -- Mike Leach after practice talked about the Tuesday session, upcoming Saturday opponent Southern Cal, Trojan coach Steve Sarkisian and more. But the very last thing he said turned out to be the headline: Kristoff Williams is no longer on the WSU roster.

JUSSTIS WARREN ADDS WSU OFFER

Recruiting: WSU sends out three new offers

IT’S BEEN A BUSY few days for the Cougars on the recruiting hunt, with three known offers going out to prospects. They include a pair of junior-college prospects and an in-state linebacker who has seen his recruiting really take steam this fall.
