Two deeps for Oklahoma State

A LOOK AT Washington State's just released two-deeps for the opener against Oklahoma State contains few surprises based on how the last couple of weeks of fall camp have played out. But it nevertheless remains a must read...

Of note on a two-deeps or depth chart, it's but a guide. Drawing hard and fast conclusions can be erroneous, in part because it often emphasizes seniority. Rickey Galvin, for example, is listed only as the backup punt returner, but all indications are you'll see the true freshman in the Cougar backfield this year.

Washington State lists 12 positions offensively on the depth chart, one more than will take the field. The extra position is fullback, where sophomore Jared Byers is listed as the starter, with junior Marcus Richmond tabbed the No. 2. .

The Cougs first listed a FB on this spring's depth chart, before that it wasn't on any in-season or preseason chart and indeed, you have to go back to the post-fall camp depth chart of 2005, when Jed Collins and Brandon Asuega-Stark were listed 1-2 headed into the season opener.

To what degree Paul Wulff intends to implement more two back sets in 2010 remains to be seen.
