Future Coug QB picked No. 1 in Orange County

FUTURE COUG PICKED AHEAD OF USC VERBAL

THERE IS, IT would seem apparent, a disconnect between the two. On one hand, future Coug Cody Clements was rated the No. 1 QB in all of Orange County by The Orange County Register. And that's ahead of USC's verbal commit from the area -- Max Wittek was rated No. 2.

But Scout.com sees it differently. They have La Habra's Cody Clements ranked 2 stars, No. 73 in the nation. Meanwhile they have Wittek at 4 stars, No. 14 nationally.

The Orange County Register notes their ranking is "what we expect of them this season, not how they project as recruits."

Still, there's a clear difference of preseason opinion given the large gap between the two.

As for Clements, the newspaper says "with his accurate arm and an excellent group of receivers to work with, the Washington State commit has a chance to improve upon his lofty 2009 totals of 29 TDs and 2,095 yards."

Scout.com is currently finishing up their August rankings cycle. There are two more ratings adjustment priods -- mid-season in November and then their final slottings in mid-January.

Will Clements climb higher on Scout's board in the coming months? Stay tuned.
