HOOPS: Keeping tabs on Rochestie, Weaver

TAYLOR ROCHESTIE: On the move

AFTER A SUCCESSFUL first pro season in Germany -- he was named the MVP of EuroChallenge 2010 after leading Göttingen to their first European trophy -- Taylor Rochestie plans to celebrate with Turkey.

Taylor Rochestie, who starred as Washington State's point guard from 2005-08, has signed with Galatasaray in Istanbul, Turkey.

"I just feel it's a good place and a good step for me in my career," Rochestie said. "Good team, good coach (Mahmudi Oklay) and a good league."

Galatasaray tied for ninth in the 16-team Turkey Basketball League, Turkey's top pro league, at 12-18 last season. Rochestie ranked third in Germany's top pro league with 15.1 points per game for Goettingen.

Rochestie played in the NBA Summer League last year, but the only Cougar on a Summer League roster this year is Kyle Weaver.

Weaver, a combo guard with Oklahoma City, led the Thunder with 34 minutes per game in last week's Orlando, Fla., games. The "league," which consists of unofficial games focused on young NBA veterans and prospects, concludes this week with games in Las Vegas that don't involve Oklahoma City.

The Thunder posted the top record (4-1) in Orlando. Weaver, a third-year pro who saw little action last season due to injuries and the Thunder's improved backcourt, ranked third on the Thunder with 14.3 points per game in Orlando.

Weaver was second in steals (1.3) and tied for second in blocked shots (1.0). He ranked third in assists with 3.5, but he shot just 39.2 percent from the field (31.3 on 3-pointers) in four games.
