BELLEVUE -- I've been paying close attention to Cougar football since 1974 when I came to the WSU…
WSU to have most early grid arrivals ever
Last year from the '09 Signing Class, a then-program record 12 arrived early.

The new freshmen Cougs will be partaking in WSU's bridge program -- it allows incoming frosh to get a jump on their college studies in the lower-key late summer session. The freshmen plan to arrive right around June 23 in most cases, with their classwork starting shortly thereafter.
ARRIVING EARLY NOT only allows an early start in the classroom for the new Cougs. It also means they can participate in WSU's voluntary summer workout program.
While every incoming recruit CF.C talked to has been hard at work this spring and summer, (QB Connor Halliday for example has been living in the weight room six days a week with a personal trainer), the strength and conditioning program at WSU is always an eye-opener to new arrivals.
Immersing themselves in it in late June will make fall camp that much more competitive, and make it easier for them to acclimate themselves to college competition.
IN PREVIOUS YEARS, seeing a handful of incoming footballers enroll early in the summer was cause for celebration. These days, the entire class comes in. And that's by design.
Paul Wulff since his arrival in Pullman has spoken often on his multi-faceted plan to build the WSU program back up. One tenet is to get the incoming recruits into the Cougar system early and to hit the ground running.
Wulff has also tabbed this '10 Cougar class to be among the best Washington State has ever brought in.
There are also in the class two junior college transfers arriving early to WSU -- WR Isiah Barton and DT/DE Steven Hoffart. Hoffart told CF.C he plans on arriving even earlier and starting WSU classes the second week of June. It remains to be seen on Barton if he too arrives then or towards the latter half of June with the rest of the class.
The 21 incoming Cougars scheduled to arrive early to Wazzu in June are:
LB C.J. Mizell
DT/DE Steven Hoffart (JC transfer)
WR Isiah Barton (JC transfer)
WR Blair Bomber
S Deone Bucannon
CB Tracy Clark
DE Xavier Cooper
S Tyrone Duckett
TE Aaron Dunn
OT John Fullington
RB Rickey Galvin
CB Brandon Golden
QB Connor Halliday
CB Damante Horton
RB/LB Eric Oertel
DT Kalafitoni Pole
WR Bobby Ratliff
TE/OT Jake Rodgers
CB Matt Simmons
WR Kristoff Williams
WR Marquess Wilson
As reported earlier on CF.C, two members of the class, RB Devontae Butler-Booker and WR Robert Jiles, will not meet academic requirements to qualify in time to join Washington State this fall. Butler-Booker plans on taking this fall to qualify and would join WSU in January, while Jiles is looking at going the JC route. Two other members of the Cougs '10 class, offensive tackle Wade Jacobson and David Gonzales, have been at WSU since January along with 2008 holdover and DT Brandon Rankin.
