BREAKING: COUGS SIGN 2 JC STANDOUT TACKLES

PAUL WULFF AND his Cougar staff just took a recruiting screen pass to the house. The Cougs already had one verbal from a JC o-lineman and he was expected to sign today. But their other JUCO target was being heavily courted by another Pac-10 school and others and on Sunday night, it looked a formidable task indeed to bring him into the crimson fold. But he, too, this morning has gone crimson.
On the first day of the mid-year signing period, two junior college 6-foot-6 offensive linemen –--
Wade Jacobson
and
David Gonzales
--- have inked their Letters of Intent to Washington State.
Mid-year junior college transfers are especially sought by college coaches -- both will arrive and enroll at WSU in January and thereby become eligible to participate in the 15-practice spring session with the Cougars.
“We felt all along Wade was one of the top offensive tackles on the West coast,” said Wulff in an official release hot off the presses from Washington State. “The fact that he and David can come in January makes them both very valuable to Cougar Football. Wade instantly brings us great toughness and athletic ability, and as a team we got better today.”
Both Jacobson and Gonzales have not been evaluated by Scout.com, and therefore carry 2-star ratings.
(Note: CF.C is endeavoring to get tape of their respective sophomore seasons to Scout in an effort to have them evaluated.
Gonzales, out of Fresno City College, was a unanimous All-Valley Conference First Team selection.
"David is a great addition to our program," said Wulff. "He brings excellent size and athleticism to our program and can really help our pass protection. Having him arrive in January will be critical, as it gives him additional time in the weight room and allows him to participate in our spring practices.”
Gonzales’ school didn’t track pancake blocks but Jacobson's did -- and he racked up a whopping 68 pancakes in eight games for Gavilan this season, leading an offensive line that allowed just nine sacks all season.
"He's a lot wanted," Gavilan coach John Lango told the
Hollster Free Lance
of Jacobson, who held offers from Arizona and others. Lango further noted other schools decided to not make an effort on recruiting Jacobson because "they felt they had no chance."
