After beating San Francisco last week, the Seahawks seemed poised to possibly make some noise in the final four weeks of the season, but that was pure folly as the Houston Texans absolutely abused Seattle from the opening kickoff and came away with a 34-7 beat down at Reliant Stadium.
From the opening kickoff, the Texans seemed much more prepared to play the game.
Quarterback
Matt Schaub
and WR
Andre Johnson
connected early and often, netting a 64-yard touchdown connection on the first play from scrimmage, beating CB
Marcus Trufant
and S
Jordan Babineaux
down the sideline to give the Texans a quick 7-0 lead.
Seattle went three-and-out on their first three series while Houston continued to pile up the yardage and points adding a 29-yard field goal by
Kris Brown
and a four-yard touchdown run by RB
Ryan Moats
to end the scoring in the first quarter.
However, Houston wasn't done scoring in the first half.
Schaub drove the Texans 64 yards on eight plays and found Johnson again, this time from 17 yards out.
Seattle was finally able to answer shortly before the end of the first half when QB
Matt Hasselbeck
found TE
John Carlson
for a four-yard touchdown pass, narrowing Houston's lead to 24-7.
However, the second half saw the Texans put the game out of reach early when Brown came on to hit a 31-yard field goal and S
Bernard Pollard
intercepted Hasselbeck and returned it 70 yards for the final score of the game.
Schaub had a huge game, completing 29 of 39 attempts for 365 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while Hasselbeck, who was sacked three times and while being beaten and battered the rest of the day, managed to put up 247 yards of offense with the one touchdown to Carlson and the one big interception by Pollard.
Linebackers
DeMeco Ryans
(12 tackles) and
Brian Cushing
(10 tackles and one sack) each had big games for the Texans while
David Hawthorne
had 10 tackles and CB Marcus Trufant added nine and an interception for the Seahawks.
Seattle, now 5-8, heads home to take on Tampa Bay who lost to the
New York Jets
26-3 at home to fall to 1-12.
