MAYBE SAN FRANCISCO coach Mike Singletary will remind us again why he was sitting former Washington State receiver Jason Hill for the first eight weeks of the season. Coming off a 30 catch 2008 campaign, Hill’s lack of playing time has been a mystery…made more so by his performance on Sunday.

Hill’s first real offensive action of the season produced four catches for 50 yards—two of those going for touchdowns—in the 49ers 34-27 loss to Tennessee.

Singletary had referenced his impatience with various maladies suffered by Hill during training camp, including vague comments on his effort in practice. Curiously, Hill has twice been named practice player of the week by the confused coach.

Here’s how all of the NFL Cougars performed in week nine :

Husain Abdullah, S, Minnesota, 2nd season: Did not play; bye week.

Tyron Brackenridge, CB, Jacksonville, 3rd season: Tallied one special teams tackle in Jags’ win against Kansas City.

Erik Coleman, S, Atlanta, 6th season: The Spokane native recorded eight tackles (7 solo) in the Falcons defeat of Washington.

Jed Collins, FB, Arizona, 2nd season:Did not play; assigned to Cardinals’ practice squad on Thursday.

Jason David, CB, Detroit, 6th season: Signed by the Lions last week, declared inactive for Detroit’s battle with Seattle.

Devard Darling, WR, Kansas City, 6th season: Did not play; out for the season with a knee injury.

Eric Frampton, S, Minnesota, 3rd season: Did not play; bye week.

Devin Frischknecht, TE, Green Bay, rookie : Did not play; on injured reserve (knee).

Jerome Harrison, RB, Cleveland, 4th season: Did not play; bye week.

Jason Hill, WR, San Francisco, 3rd season: The SF native caught his first pass all season—a 12 yard touchdown, then scored again in the fourth quarter. For the day, Hill caught 4 passes for 50 yards, but the ‘Niners lost to Tennessee 34-27.

Rian Lindell, K, Buffalo, 10th season: Did not play; bye week. With his four point outing last weekend, the Vancouver native moved to 47th on the all-time NFL scoring list, with 948 points.
