WASHINGTON STATE'S Pac-10 champion teams of 1997 and 2002 were two of the three best college football squads in the history of the Evergreen State, according to fan voting recently conducted by Both of those Cougar teams won 10 games -- including heartstoppers over USC -- and both advanced to the Rose Bowl.

The fan vote pegged the 1991 Huskies, who were 12-0 and co-national champions, the state's best-ever college football team. If only SportsCenter was around back in 1916, that year's Washington State team may have lived on and trumped them all.
