Crimson YouTube: Ol' Crimson
Gameday Home Depot

Posted Jul 20, 2009

IT WAS BORN from a simple suggestion one day on the message boards. And since that day in 2003, Ol' Crimson, the Washington State flag, has appeared all over the country -- and on 76 consecutive broadcasts of ESPN Gameday and 78 appearances overall.

Regardless of location, the elements, or hostile fans -- the Cougar flag continues to wave Saturdays in the fall.

The 2009 campaign will mark its seventh season of appearing on ESPN's Gameday.

The Ol' Crimson phenomenon has received national attention from the likes of USA Today ,The Sporting News, ESPN and Sports Illustrated, to name just a handful.

The Ol' Crimson Booster Club (OCBC) and the flying of Ol' Crimson are dedicated to the memory of Johnny Bley, captain of the 1935 Washington State football team, and Syndie Pounds.

One of the greatest tackles ever to line up for the Cougs, Captain Bley was the epitome of Cougar Spirit and was the consummate team player. Syndie, the unsung hero of the OCBC, made the continued flying of Ol' Crimson possible with her love, support and craftsmanship.

These video clips come courtesy of Will Walker, a '97 graduate of Washington State.

Ol' Crimson even made an appearance at the NCAA regional baseball tourney in Norman, OK recently. The same 'crew' that did the football college gameday show last November in Norman and Stillwater, took the flags to the baseball games, Tim Hartley and Cameron McCoy.

Those who wish to donate money to the continued cause of seeing Ol' Crimson fly Saturday mornings on ESPN Gameday may do so by sending it to:
