Cougs eye some Grade-A Hawaiian prime
Micah Hatchie (6-5, 290) has nine offers including six from the Pac-10 -- Washington State, Arizona, Cal, Oregon, Stanford and Washington. Official visits and a decision are likely to come after his football season but Hatchie, from Waialua High on the island of Oahu, says the Cougs are "probably" in line for one of his five official visits. "Washington State, that's a pretty good program. They're coming back," said Hatchie. Cougar recruiting coordinator Rich Rasmussen is running the point on Hatchie for Wazzu. "I've talked with coach (Rasmussen) and they're really excited about me and want me to come up there and check out their school and program," said Hatchie. HATCHIE ALREADY tips the scales at close to three bills but he's long and lean -- physically, he's not close to resembling what he'll look like at the next level, says Scout.com Northwest Analyst Chris Fetters. "Even though he's 6-5 and 290, he really has a body that can be molded," said Fetters. "The school that gets him is going to be able to shape him into the kind of player they want him to be, such as a thick and physical athletic-type who can really move. "He's a great technician. He's really, really good with his feet and does a really nice job with his hands. At his level, he's one of the best technically that I've seen." HATCHIE SAYS he has no leaders, nor even a school that is slightly ahead of the pack. "I'm really just not too sure about that right now...There's not a school right now that (stands apart)," he said. Most schools are talking o-line on Hatchie, he said, with SMU one who likes him at d-tackle. "I'm looking at the surroundings, the people, the team, the teachers, the facilities, all of it," said Hatchie. profile and video
