FUND-RAISING efforts for injured Washington State football player Cory Mackay have run into a small roadblock, but donors can smash through it with ease. After learning that it would have taken months of work to establish a foundation for Mackay, as originally announced, supporters have been forced to return checks written to the Cory Mackay Foundation.
Instead, checks need to be made out to the Cory Mackay Fund.
Checks may be mailed to P.O. Box 814, Redmond, Wash. 98073-0814 or they can be dropped off at any US Bank branch.
Insurance coverage falls well short of paying for all of Mackay’s medical costs.
Messages for Cory Mackay and periodic updates on his rehabilitation efforts may be found at www.corymackay.com. Mackay hopes to walk again, but was left paralyzed below the waist when he fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his truck when driving home from Pullman after spring finals.
“He’s been getting out of the house quite a bit, but he hasn’t had any more movement,” Donald Mackay, Cory’s father, says. “But he’s recovering very nicely.”
The elder Mackay said his son has begun lifting weights as part of his rehab efforts and recently took his girlfriend to dinner. “He’s ahead of where people thought he could be, mainly because of his athleticism and how athletes apply themselves,” Mr. Mackay said.
