Gesser works his magic in a new way

LEAVE IT TO Jason Gesser, the winningest quarterback in Washington State history, to pull off the unprecedented. He has the entire staff of a Pac-10 school coming to work at a summer camp 300 miles away from campus. This Sunday in Tukwila, Gesser will be launching his Northwest Elite Football Camp, featuring Paul Wulff and a multitude of other notables.
"The unique thing about this camp is those coaches won't just be sitting there observing -- they're going to be putting the kids through the drills, they're going to be coaching them up," said
Gesser
.
In addition to
Wulff
and the entire Wazzu coaching staff, NFL players and former college standouts, plus college coaches from Hawaii, Idaho and other universities, will all be out on the field working with athletes.
The ratio of campers to coach, says Gesser, will be around 7-to-1 -- and hands-on instruction will be all the rage.
NFL players
Marcus Trufant
,
Devard Darling
,
Hamza Abdullah
and
Alex Brink
will be among those present.
"College coaches are going to be there, NFL players are going to be there -- they're all going to be there coaching them up. Former college stars are going to be there, too," said Gesser.
Gesser says every division of college football, whether it's D-IA or D-III, will be represented at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila on Sunday.
"At the very least, these kids are going to come out better players. And they might come out of it getting noticed by these coaches and schools," said Gesser.
The Northwest Elite Football Camp is Sunday, June 21. The day before, Saturday, June 20, Gesser will hold a clinic specifically geared for high school coaches.
At the clinic, Wulff and the entire WSU coaching staff will be speaking over the course of the evening. Others include NFL and college coach Eric Price, talking about the one-back offense, and Hawaii's Craig Stutzmann, who will speak about the high powered UH offensive system.
All the information for both the Saturday coaches clinic and Sunday camp is available at
