Cougs can't find enough offense in loss

SENIOR CENTER Aron Baynes scored 14 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and blocked 2 shots Saturday in Pullman, but it wasn't enough for Washington State as the Cougs dropped a 58-52 decision to No. 24 Baylor.

A dunk by Baynes and a 3-pointer by Daven Harmeling brought the Cougars to within 53-51 with 2 minutes left, but they would get no closer.

Harmeling also finished with 14 points. Taylor Rochestie was the third Cougar in double figures, scoring 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting.

The Cougs’ leading scorer, Klay Thompson, was whistled for two quick fouls and sat out much of the first half. He did not attempt his first shot until 18:38 remained in the second half, finishing with four points on 2-of-5 shooting.

"We have to play at our best or we are going to be in trouble. Our guys are going to be disappointed when they see all the breakdowns we had," WSU coach Tony Bennett said.

Wazzu held Baylor to 40 percent shooting but could only muster a 37.8 percent shooting percentage on their end. The difference also came down to foul shots – Baylor hit 21 of 25 while WSU made 12 of 19.

The Cougars fell to 6-2 on the season and will host No. 5 Gonzaga on Wednesday.
