Washington high on Washington State

DIJON WASHINGTON

HARD HITTING SAFETIES aren't necessarily guys who look like they could also play linebacker, they're more often the type of players who have the quickness to cover a lot of ground, with advanced read and react skills. One in the Cougar orbit who fits that description gave the Washington State experience high marks on his recent official visit to the Palouse.

The playoffs haven't begun yet for Leuzinger High in Lawndale, Calif and three star safety prospect Dijon Washington (6-1, 180) is a busy man these days. He had only a few minutes to talk recruiting but he did have enough time to give high marks to the Cougar coaching staff and his official visit experience at Washington State.

"The thing with me is it's a new coaching staff. They want to bring in players like me to come in and make a change there...The coaching staff (stood out). I probably talked to coach Broussard the most. It was really a family atmosphere there," said Washington.

Washington, whose nickname around high school is The Missile because of the hard hits he dishes out on the gridiron, said the Cougs are high up on his list following the visit.

"I knew it would be a nice campus and the coaches were all really cool. I pretty much knew the coaches from before," said Washington.

A missed flight unfortunately meant he he didn't get to campus until later on Saturday, too late for the game against Arizona. He did, he said, however get a good sense of the academics at Washington State and of student life at Wazzu.

"It was pretty cool. I missed the game but everything was pretty nice there. The (academics) were really good," said Washington.

Washington has been to Washington State and Nebraska and said his plans call for a trip to Fresno State "in a couple weeks."
