ONE DAY AFTER the Pac-10's leading receiver, Brandon Gibson, said he would return to Washington State for his senior year, news comes that WSU o-lineman Andy Roof, who sat out this past season, has enrolled at WSU for the spring semester and is rejoining the football squad. Roof, who will be a fifth year senior, would also be eligible to participate in the Cougs' spring ball session in March.
Offensive guard
Andy Roof
, who would have been a fourth year junior last season but was suspended for one semester from Washington State following a series of legal and personal troubles, has re-enrolled at WSU and is rejoining the football team, The Seattle Times reported.
Of the five starters up front in '07, Washington State in '08 loses only one starter in guard left
Bobby Byrd
to graduation. C
Kenny Alfred
, RG
Dan Rowlands
, LT
Vaughn Lesuma
and RT
Micah Hannam
all return.
Roof, listed at 6-5, 299 pounds prior to last season, has five starts in his Cougar career with 18 games of experience. The totals would likely be higher had he not missed five games combined in 2006-07 with a broken thumb and later a heel injury.
Roof in high school already had an NFL-like 655-pounds squat before he ever stepped foot on the Washington State campus. At East Valley High in Spokane, Roof was the first freshman to play varsity football in Greater Spokane League history and was an all-state selection as a senior. The three-time All-GSL pick was among the most touted hosses in the West, and one of eight players from the state of Washington to earn The Seattle Times Blue Chip distinction.
