NFL Cougar Highlights: Week Seven

FRAMPTON: Traveling Man

FORMER COUGAR KICKERS Jason Hanson and Rian Lindell saved the day for the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills, respectively, kicking perfect games for their victorious clubs. Meanwhile, four Washington State greats were testimony to the nomadic life of a professional football player. All of this and more in our weekly recap of Cougs in the NFL.

Hamza Abdullah, DB, Denver, 3rd season : Has returned to limited practice(hip flexor strain), but did not play in Broncs' 31-28 win against Pitt.

Calvin Armstrong, OT, Washington, 3rd season: Did not play; signed to the Redskins' practice squad on Oct. 15. A first team All Pac-10 lineman for Wazzu in 2002 and 2004, he was the sixth round selection of Philadelphia in 2005. He appeared in three games for the Eagles that season and was released by the club just prior to the 2006 campaign. Armstrong had brief stays on the practice squads of Green Bay and Washington in 2006 and was released by the 'Skins this past September.

Kyle Basler, P, Cleveland, 1st season: Did not play; on non-injury reserve.

Troy Bienemann, TE, Arizona, 1st season: No stats from Cardinals' 21-19 loss to the Redskins.

Cody Boyd, TE, unsigned, rookie : Did not play; released by the Redskins on Saturday. He was picked up by Washington after being released by Pittsburgh just prior to the regular season. He appeared in five preseason games with the Steelers, catching 1 pass for 7 yards. He did not appear in a regular season contest this season. If Boyd clears waivers, it is likely he'll join Armstrong on the Redskins' practice squad. Both Boyd's release and Armstrong's signing were the result of an injury-depleted hoss corp.

Tyron Brackenridge, CB, Kansas City, rookie : Notched one solo tackle in Chiefs' 12-10 defeat of Oakland.

Mkristo Bruce, DE, Oakland, rookie: Did not play; signed by Raiders on Oct. 8 and assigned to practice squad .

Erik Coleman, S, New York Jets, 4th season : Did not start for the second consecutive week; may still be slowed by concussion suffered earlier this season. Posted two solo tackles in Jets' 38-31 fall to Cincy.

Devard Darling, WR, Baltimore, 4th season : Caught his first pass of the season (a 10 yard gain)-- and just third of his career-- in Ravens' 19-14 loss to Buffalo.

Jason David, DB, New Orleans, 4th season: Did not play, but did participate in practice on a limited basis this past week after being on the inactive list since suffering a fractured forearm in week four. Status for week eight is unknown at press time.

Eric Frampton, S, Minnesota, rookie : Did not play. He was released by the Detroit Lions on Saturday, but was signed by the Minnesota Vikings, Monday, marking the third stop of his young professional career. He was a 5th round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders last spring, but was released by the franchise prior to the regular season. He tallied three solo tackles over 5 games for the Lions this season.

Steve Gleason, DB, New Orleans, 8th season: Out for season on injured reserve.

Jason Hanson, K, Detroit, 16th season : Perfect on two extra-point attempts and three field goal tries (from 34, 42 and 32 yards) in Lions' 23-16 win against Tampa Bay.

Jerome Harrison, RB, Cleveland, 2nd season : Did not play; bye week.

Jason Hill, WR, San Francisco, rookie: Declared inactive due to lingering hamstring injury.

Rian Lindell, K, Buffalo, 8th season : Accounted for 13 of the Bills' 19 points with one PAT and field goals of 26,29, 31, and 45 yards in Buffalo victory over Baltimore.

Rien Long, DT, Tennessee, 5th season: Out for the season on injured reserve.

Rob Meier, DE, Jacksonville, 8th season : Defensed one pass in Jags' 29-7 fall to Counterfeit Colts.

Karl Paymah, CB, Denver, 3rd season : Posted one solo tackle in Broncos' 31-28 victory against the Steelers.

Raonall Smith, LB, St. Louis, 6th season : Did not play; out for the season on injured reserve. Posted two solo tackles this season prior to injury.

Lamont Thompson, DB, unsigned, 6th season: Had a tryout with St. Louis last week, but was not signed.

Marcus Trufant, DB, Seattle, 5th season : Tallied five solo stops, 1 interception and defensed two passes in Hawks' 33-6 battering of the Rams.

Cory Withrow, C/G, San Diego, 9th season : Did not play; bye week. Slated to start for Chargers next weekend.
