Cougs' Long and Cali LB make a connection


LINEBACKERS WITH SPEED will always be in demand, and Cougar assistant Marty Long has made a solid connection with one out of Corona, Calif., about an hour Southeast of Los Angeles. He holds a Wazzu offer, clocked a 4.44 in the 40 at the L.A. combine and says Washington State's aggressive defense is highly appealing. Another Pac-10 school, however, is trying this month to close the deal.

Brandon Magee (5-11.5, 226, 4.44) said there are two coaches recruiting him he feels a particularly strong connection with -- Long, Washington State's defensive ends coach, and receivers coach Darrell Wyatt at UA. Magee said Washington State's defense, one that could become even more aggressive this year under Bill Doba this year as he takes over the coordinator role, is a linebacker's dream...
