JUNE DAUGHERTY, Washington State women's basketball coach didn't suffer a heart attack Tuesday, but heart irregularity, and has been upgraded from critical to serious condition, a Washington State University source told CF.C this afternoon. Her prognosis is excellent.
In official statements from the school this morning and afternoon, WSU clarified that Daugherty didn't suffer a heart attack Tuesday afternoon after arriving at a medical clinic in Everett, where she was scheduled for a physical, and that her condition had been upgraded from "critical" to "serious".
Personnel from the clinic attended to June and she was then taken to Providence Hospital in Everett.
According to Mike Daugherty, June’s condition was not described as a heart attack, no blockage was found and there are no anticipated long term issues at this time. No specific time table for her recovery has been made by the medical personnel attending June.
“June is doing as well as can be expected,” husband and associate head coach Mike Daugherty said Wednesday morning. “We appreciate all those who have expressed their concerns and appreciate their prayers. Right now we request that everyone respect the privacy of our family.”
"There is no information at this time on the length of her recovery, only that the news is as good as we could hope for, under the circumstances," said a release from WSU Sports Infomation.
An audio clip later with quotes from athletic department personnel is expected to be released later today.
Daugherty was named to the Washington State post last month after spending the previous 11 seasons with Washington.
