Cougs sack Pack, 31-7

SEATTLE -- Washington State linebacker Will Derting intercepted three Nevada passes, returning one for a school record 98-yard touchdown, as the Cougars defeated the Wolf Pack, 31-7.

Derting, a redshirt freshman from Okanogan, thrilled the sold out Seahawk Stadium crowd of 67,000 in what otherwise was a less than thrilling performance by a Cougar team saddled with great expectations. Nevada opened the scoring with an 8-yard run by Chance Kretschmer in the first quarter, but was unable to hit paydirt again. Senior Cougar receiver Jerome Riley took a Jason Gesser pass 44-yards in the second quarter to start the Wazzu run of 31 unanswered points.
