PHOTO ESSAY: Harrison runs wild, WSU falls

Pullman -- The clash between the Cougars and Cardinal, as told from the CF.C photo lens in an exclusive 19-picture photo essay. Jerome Harrison rushed for the fourth best total in program history -- 218 yards -- but Washington State still somehow lost 24-21 Saturday in Pullman.

The aftermath of Mkristo Bruce's first sack of the day on Trent Edwards, a Cardinal loss of 6 yards. Bruce and Steve Dildine each had 11 tackles on Saturday to pace the Cougs, while true freshman middle linebacker Greg Trent racked up 10 sticks in his first college start.

Jerome Harrison sets up his blocks before a 69-yard romp in first half action Saturday. Harrison topped the century mark for the eight straight game, accounting for more than half the Cougar offense with 218 rushing yards. The Cougs amassed 407 yards of total offense but scored only 21 points.

Harrison now finds his name next to two of the top four marks in program history. He holds the No. 3 spot all time with 247 ground yards against UCLA last season.

Adam Braidwood, Scott Davis and Alex Teems combine to stop Cardinal running back Anthony Kimble. WSU held Kimble to 77 yards but allowed quarterback Trent Edwards to gain an astounding 92 yards on the ground.

Story of the day for the Cougar defense: Near misses. Here, Scott Davis dives and comes up empty on Trent Edwards. The Cougars were unable to contain the Stanford QB as he, incredibly, was the leading rusher on the afternoon for the Cardinal. Edwards simply ran through, over and around the Cougar defense. If two sacks weren't figured in quarterback rushing yards by the NCAA, Trent would have been credited for 103 ground yards. As it was, he still averaged 7.2 yards a carry.

Mkristo Bruce and Husain Abdullah take down Stanford's Nick Frank in fourth quarter action. Abdullah had seven tackles and a pass break up while fellow safety Eric Frampton led the secondary with nine sticks on the afternoon.

A three part look at senior Trandon Harvey's twisting, contorting, amazing grab against Stanford's Brandon Harrison. In the second half, the 45 yard completion set up Washington State's second score of the day to tie the game in the first half.

On the 45-yard gain, Trandon Harvey attempts to keep his balance against Brandon Harrison. Washington State, who moved the ball from their own 30 yard line to Stanford's 25 on the Harvey reception, scored four plays later to knot the game 14-14 on an 8-yard Jerome Harrison scamper.

Greg Prator comes through with a fourth quarter touchdown over Stanford's T.J. Rushing. The ensuing extra point pulled Washington State to within three at 24-21, but the final WSU drive was scuttled by an interception with under a minute remaining.

But Edwards was able to get rid of the ball and officials ruled it an incompletion, much to the dismay of radio color man Jim Walden. The very next play, Stanford struck for 41 yards (a net of 31 after a Stanford penalty) to get into scoring position. But it was all rendered moot when the drive resulted in a missed Stanford field goal.

T.J. Rushing finds himself surrounded by Coug defenders. The Stanford special teams, a hot topic of discussion throughout game week, didn't play a significant role in the outcome of the 24-21 loss.
