PULLMAN—It’s only 11:34 a.m. and I think I could fall asleep and not wake up until tomorrow morning, but that’s not how its going to be. I still have a long day ahead: Lab for three hours, a little time to grab a bite to eat, then skelly. After skelly, I get to write a paper. I know what you all are thinking right now… how fun! Well, I could go without the lab and the paper.
I would have to agree with Scotty D (

Scott Davis
’ latest diary on the front page
) on the intensity of the workouts every week. They are not getting any easier, but that is a good thing because we’re going to out work every team. The gassers in the sun are tough. Heck, the gassers alone are tough, but with the warm temperatures and the added heat of the FieldTurf, that just makes it harder. I know some people might not think that the FieldTurf gets hot, but man, let me tell you it does. The greenness is a cover up on the billions of little black sun magnets lying underneath. All I can say is the heat in New Mexico shouldn’t be too hard to cope with because of our training. So I hope you all are ready for a game.
Here were some questions from you all out there…
How many blocked field goals or point-after attempts do you think you will have this coming season, and how badly does it "sting" when you get your hand/fingers on a ball and block it?
No telling how many I will have. Hopefully, I can get a bunch. The sting usually isn’t too bad. It all depends on where the ball hits. The hands aren’t too bad, but forearms can burn a little.
Have I seen any of the new guys yet and do they look good?
Not too many have made it to Pullman yet.
Greg Prator
has been here a couple weeks and has been doing well in skelly, getting those plays down a little before Levy (coach
Mike Levenseller
) digs in. There was another guy who I didn’t know Tuesday at skelly watching the defensive backs, but I didn’t catch his name.
On a side note:
Josh Swogger
is looking good. Very good. He has been hitting the open man and receivers are getting open. One person said on the board that there have been some drops from receivers. Meeting twice a week to catch and throw is tough on some receivers, but once we all get into practices catching everyday, those drops will disappear.
Are we going to use more two tight end sets this year?
That’s all up to the coaches and how healthy people are and game situations.
Will I be playing some wide receiver?
That is also up to the coaches. I want to be on the field and if they want me to play WR or TE that would be awesome because I just want to be out there helping anyway possible.
Saturday should be a fun one: I will be going to the Tim McGraw concert at the Gorge with the girlfriend and some other friends. Sorry if I missed any questions, I have to get running to finish my long day…
Cody Boyd
is a sophomore tight end from Ferndale High, where his exploits on the field earned him one of only three blue chip ratings handed out by the Seattle Times in '02. As a redshirt freshman for the Cougs last year, Boyd caught 18 passes for 230 yards and a TD, also using his 6-8 frame and athleticism to block three kicks. Along with teammate
Scott Davis
, he graciously volunteered to give Cougar fans a window on the world of pre-season football preparation with a weekly diary.
