John Fullington, Packers an intriguing match
Fullington started 43 straight games for the Cougars, so durability is no issue. He also started at left tackle, right tackle and right guard, so he has versatility in spades.
Moreover, the two -- player and team -- are no strangers. The Pack brought Fullington in for a visit a month ago.
Durability and versatility. Fullington has it and the Packers need it.
Fullington stands 6-5 and weighs 300 pounds. NFL.com rated him the 55th-best guard prospect in this year's talent pool and nfldraftblitz pegged him as the 28th-best offensive tackle.
A year ago, CBSsports.com draft analyst Rob Rang said this about the big man from Belfair: "Fullington isn't an elite athlete but has the lateral agility and balance to protect the edge. He's only a junior and needs to get stronger, but Fullington is one to watch for the future."
A week ago, NFL Draft Scout's Dave-Te' Thomas called Fullington "a scout's accident."
He explained: "With all the time I spent watching (star safety Deone) Bucannon, Fullington kept grabbing my attention. He is not fast, but oh so smooth moving laterally, looking like Logan Mankins with his hands up and ready to fire. A former track weight man with both OT and OG experience, he's a third-day guy, but you see the low pads, the footwork and strong anchor in this kid, making me continue with the Mankins similarities. If my left tackle goes down, I have no problem sliding him out, as I know he has the retreat skills to seal the edge."
RECORD-SETTING COUGAR kicker Andrew Furney tweeted late Saturday that he had received an invitation to the Seahawks' upcoming mini-camp. As of press time, there was no word on the NFL outlook for cornerback Damante Horton or other graduating Cougs.
NOTABLE: One of the most prolific tacklers in WSU history, Palouse Posse star John Rushing, is an assistant coach with Green Bay.
