Kent hot on recruiting trail in California
PG Devin Watson (5-10, 150) out of Oceanside, Calif. verballed to Oregon State last fall and was expected to sign in November. But it fell through. "The Beavers have decided not to sign El Camino High School point guard Devin Watson," the Oregonian reported during the early signing period. No reason was given for OSU's change of heart. WSU is looking at the 3-star prospect Friday. He was named All-CIF San Diego Section and the Avocado West League MVP this past season, scoring 23.5 ppg. Meanwhile, the Cougs will be taking a look at SG Braxton Huggins, a 6-2, 175-pound three star prospect Saturday. Gershon said he considered him a mid-major prospect back in July but that was before his senior campaign. It was a season in which he scored 32.2 ppg. CLICK HERE FOR HIGHLIGHTS Ernie Kent has a little over a month to fill the four remaining slots he has open and two Scout.com analysts characterize the pickings as slim. "There really isn't much available out West in 2014," Gershon told CF.C of the later signing period that ends May 21. "I could see Terrell Carter, a center from Redondo Beach (Calif.) Union, as an option, but other than that, Kent will likely have to go the JUCO route." Scout.com analyst Bryan Snow agrees with Gershon. "There isn't much out there, I know that. I would assume he will try to get some JUCO's and fill needs that way," Snow said. Still, there's no doubt Kent and assistants Sylvie Dominguez and Greg Graham are going to look at every guy out there that they can. The hope is that there may still be some players out there, ones who didn't turn the proverbial corner until their senior season in high school -- at a time when recruiting rankings have already been largely cast, the AAU season has long since gone and schools have filled up their slots. There may still be quality, Pac-12-types out there. And that's what Kent and crew will determine over the next four-plus weeks.
