COUGS COULDN'T CONTAIN PRICE IN SECOND HALF

SEATTLE -- Washington State's offense had few answers for Washington's sack-happy defense on Friday, while the Husky offense overcame two first-half turnovers to put matters into overdrive in the third quarter. And just like that, a 10-3 WSU halftime lead devolved into a 27-17 Husky victory in the 106th renewal of the Apple Cup rivalry.

Washington scored 17 straight in the third quarter before the Cougars came back with a 10-play scoring drive, highlighted by a big conversion on fourth down, to narrow the score to 20-17 on a Connor Halliday-to-Dom Williams TD pass midway through the fourth quarter.

The conversion gave the Cougs life, and then WSU's defense forced a punt and the Cougar offense had more than five minutes on the clock to make a defining drive. But an errant Halliday throw behind the receiver resulted in an interception and UW scored shortly after to salt the game away.
