1st half: Cougs' D brings the heat - & points

CONNOR HALLIDAY STARTED out on fire, putting two touchdowns quickly on the board. But Southern Utah moved the ball against the WSU defense and was driving again, down only 14-10. But Daquawn Brown made a pick and soon after that, WSU corner Damante Horton went all deja vu on the Thunderbirds.

Just three minutes into the second quarter, with the Cougars leading 14-10 and the Thunderbirds approaching midfield, true freshman cornerback Daquawn Brown intercepted Aaron Cantu to set up a 55-yard touchdown pass from Halliday to Dominique Williams.

Horton then followed with an interception returned for a touchdown for a second consecutive week as the Cougars built a 28-10 advantage at the half. This one went back 72 yards, two hashes more than Horton's pick-six against USC.

Halliday completed 16 of 20 passes for 233 yards, three touchdowns and an interception during the first half.

Williams had 101 yards on three receptions – two for touchdowns.
