Future Coug wins state shot put title

Future Coug o-lineman Cody O'Connell won the Class 4A state title in the shot put on Thursday.

The 6-8, 350-pounder from Wenatchee had a 59-foot 9-3/4 inch heave in rainy conditions in the final round to claim the title. His best effort this season was 62-1.

O'Connell played in only four games as a senior due to a knee injury but was so dominate in the limited time he was on the field that Big Nine coaches voted him the league's lineman of the year.
