Willis to Announce Decision This Week

Priest Willis

Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza defensive back Priest Willis took his 5th and final official visit this past weekend to UCLA. The top ranked corner in the region said he's ready to make his college choice...

Priest Willis had already taken official visits to LSU, Florida State, Nebraska and Virginia before making the short road trip to UCLA over the weekend.

"I'm so familiar with UCLA, I've been there a ton of times already and feel really good there," Willis said. "The only difference between this trip and my unofficial visits I've taken is they're allowed to spend money on you and buy you dinner and you also stay in a hotel.

"I've already done the campus tours and sat in on position meetings. I know the campus well enough now to give my own tour of the place. I've talked with Coach Mora and Coach Martin about my role in the defense and how they see me fitting in. I know the guys on the team really well and they already consider me part of the family. it was a good trip, like I said, I have a comfort level there but there really wasn't anything that stood out or surprised me only because I already know UCLA so well."

Willis said his current comfort level with the school is a big reason UCLA has been high on his list since last spring.

"If I chose UCLA, there wouldn't be much of an adjustment period at all," Willis said. "I know the defense and I know how they want to use me. They graduate both starting corners and there's a big opportunity to play right away. It's a great academic school, a UCLA degree is huge and they have alumni all over the world.

"I really like Coach Mora and coach Martin a lot. They're good guys and good coaches and I feel like I can trust them. I like the location, my family is in Arizona so it would be easy for them to come down anytime they wanted. UCLA is definitely high on my list and I feel pretty good about them."

Willis, who nearly committed while at the Under Armour All-American game, said he's now planning to make his decision this week.

"I'm still trying to figure out the exact date but it will be this week," Willis said. "I have the school picked out and just need to call the other coaches. I don't know if it will be on TV or not, I don't have anything planned but that would be cool. I also could do it on Sunday at the West Coast Bowl game. I'm not playing in the game but I'll be down there for the activities since B2G is putting it on.

"Tahaan (Goodman) will be down there too so that would be fun because we could do it together. At first we both talked about announcing on Signing Day but we want to start recruiting for the school we choose. The sooner we commit, we figure we can help bring in a great class and I'm really excited about that."

In addition to the schools he has visited, local favorite Arizona State is also under strong consideration.
