Cougars on losing end of Buffalo hunt
No Halliday for the Cougs

AT MOMENTS, it wasn’t clear who the worst team was in the Pac-12: Washington State or Colorado. As a result, the Cougars were unable to escape numerous blown chances, penalties and turnovers as they fell to the Buffaloes 35-34 in their homecoming game at Martin Stadium.
The game went down to the wire with Colorado snatching the win away from clear favorite Washington State with nine seconds left.
Washington State (2-2) got off to a quick start with a 32-yard touchdown pass from
Connor Halliday
to up-and-coming wide receiver
Gabe Marks
with 13:18 left in The Opening quarter.
Halliday then threw his first of two interceptions on the Cougars' next series.
Despite leading 21-7 going into halftime, the Cougars were unable to slam the door shut on a team that gave up 69 points to Fresno State last week. The Buffaloes (1-3) led in both rushing yards and time of possession.
The Cougars stumbled to the end, as running back Tony Jones went 84 yards to tighten the deficit to three with just under five minutes left.
Play of the game:
Midway through the third quarter, senior cornerback
Daniel Simmons
intercepted Jordan Webb’s pass to give the Cougars possession again.
Key play:
After Simmons’ interception, the Cougars were third-and-3 at the Colorado 49-yard line and Halliday threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to
Marquess Wilson
to put the Washington State up 28-14.
Stat of the game: Washington State had two turnovers, while Colorado had three.
