SIMMONS: Receivers 'More of a Physical Unit'

RECEIVERS COACH DENNIS SIMMONS

PULLMAN - Cougars receivers coach Dennis Simmons has been impressed with his players so far. He discusses emerging players, the new Air Raid offense, and more in this exclusive video interview.

With the first two days of fall camp behind them, the Cougars have shown signs of progress on the field.

On Day Two, Washington State receivers coach Dennis Simmons has been impressed with his position group.

"So far, so good. We've had some of the guys come out and show there was a reason why we recruited them. It will be interested when we get to the put the pads on, it will be a true tell all. But so far, it's been overly impressive," he said.

With the offense switching to Mike Leach's Air Raid, there will be a constant rotation of receivers, something that Simmons feels has been in favor of the players.

"It's made us more of a physical unit, which is what I thought was the biggest thing we were losing last spring," he said.

The coach has also been teaching the receivers some of the technical aspects to the game, including "staying low, setting up their routes, being physical and having a presence in the run game."

With just a few short weeks before the August 30th season opener versus BYU, Coach Simmons is looking forward to seeing the team take the field.

"It's a chance to go out there and get the season started off right by playing well and getting a victory," he said.
