Andrei Lintz's Diary: Week 5
WSU Slot Receiver
Posted Jul 6, 2012
PULLMAN -- Hello Cougar Fans! After a week off, our team returned to get back to work and did not lose a step from the first half of the summer. This week I will fill you guys in on what we did on our week off, how guys spent their down time, and give some shout-outs to guys who have been stepping up their intensity.
This week of workouts was a tough one because the amount of running and the weight on the bar did not skip a beat just because we had a week off.
We even had an early morning lift on July 4, but luckily it was only an upper body day and most of the guys loved it because the rest of the holiday was spent “sun’s out, guns out.” We had Thursday off and were right back at it this Friday as we had one of the hardest workouts of the entire summer.
On the field, we ran an ungodly amount of 80-yard sprints, (think far, far into the double-digits) and then went inside to power clean and back squat heavy.
This week’s shout-outs
Jeff and Teondray have been lighting it up during 7on7 the whole summer and are looking better and better every day.
Steven and Xavier have been putting up tremendous weight in the weight room and are going to be a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line this year.
We are counting down
the weeks until fall camp but making sure we get the best out of each and every workout.
Having last week off came at an excellent time because it is roughly the halfway point of our summer and most of the guys needed some time to rest up their bodies and minds. Now the entire team is refreshed and ready to finish off the summer strong.
Last week some guys were able to go home, but the majority of the team stayed in Pullman for class. Those that stayed still went into the weight room to get a light lift and some cardio. We still did 7on7 twice and it was mostly for the freshman to get accustomed to the new offensive and defensive systems.
The freshmen are raw but you can tell that they have talent.
For us that stayed in Pullman the week was spent relaxing and doing team activities like barbeques and trips to the dunes. Pullman is such a small place during the summer that whenever there is anything going on the majority of the team turns out and it makes for a good time. Some of us have spent a lot of time golfing this summer and other guys make it a point to try and go fishing at least once a week. I went up to Lake Coeur d’Alene with some teammates and friends while some other guys headed up to Spokane for Hoopfest last weekend. Needless to say we always find something fun to do and the team always stays together.
I was fortunate enough
to take a tour of the renovations to Martin Stadium a couple weeks ago. I must say that I am extremely impressed in the work that they have accomplished and how great the whole facility looks. The three story renovation is complete with a convention room, loge boxes, suites, press area, and club room. The entire building is huge and the views of the field cannot be beat. If I was a fan I could not wait to watch a game from up there.
I only have a few more of these diary entries left this summer so make sure all of you ask any questions that you may have. Other than that it is another week in the books and one week closer to the start of the 2012 season. I hope everyone reading this is getting as excited as our team is to get this season rolling! Until next time, Go Cougs!
Cougar inside receiver Andrei Lintz out of Bellingham had a monster spring session at Washington State, moving from tight end to the slot in Mike Leach's Air Raid. The senior-to-be pulled in seven catches for 57-yards and a TD in the Crimson & Gray game. Lintz appeared in all 12 games in 2011, with five starts as a junior tight end, with seven catches for 96 yards and one touchdown. Following his senior year at Meridian High, he was named Associated Press All-State as both a punter and defensive end. His grandfather Yuri played professional soccer in Russia.
