Newest WSU verbal commit about to 'blow up'

GERARD WICKS

GREG BIGGINS, one of the nation's foremost football recruiting analysts, spared nothing Wednesday after he broke the news that Long Beach Poly running back Gerard Wicks had verbally committed to Washington State. "He's going to blow up this year...," he said on the CF.C luxury suites message board.

"... he's a very good player and will probably have double-digit offers after the first few games of the season," Biggins wrote. "He can go."

With speed believed to be in the 4.4 range, he is a track standout as well as a football standout. He runs 100m and 200m races for Long Beach Poly, as well as the 4x400m and 4x100m relays.

Wicks is 5-10, 195 pounds, and is as adept at catching the ball as he is running it.

WSU was the first school to offer him. He's also been hearing from Tennessee, UCLA, Arizona State, San Diego State and others.

"Aside from my speed and going through the hole, I'm focusing on coming up to the ball and being smarter with it this year," he told Scout.com in May.

Biggins will be talking with Wicks at length later this evening, at which time Cougfan.com subscribers can learn all the insight behind his decision to go crimson.

Wicks' oral pledge is the latest in a banner week of talent hauling for WSU coaches. Since 4-star QB Tyler Bruggman verbally committed to WSU on June 13, Cougar coaches have secured verbals from another six. In all, WSU now has nine known verbal commits in its 2013 recruiting class.
