DEVIAN SHELTON IS a hot commodity. The 6-2, 180-pound safety out of Inglewood, Calif. is sitting on…
California safety will visit WSU
Shelton says his official visit to WSU is planned for either Jan. 13 or Jan. 20. He hasn't been able to talk to WSU much yet, but the Cougars have his interest. "I'll be visiting Washington State, that's what is set right now. I haven't called the coach back yet but I'm going to do that (today). I don't know a whole lot about them yet, but the (new staff) has been recruiting me hard," said Shelton. "Few defensive backs have raised their stock like Shelton has," says Scout.com West Manager Brandon Huffman. "Overshadowed at times by teammate Derrick Woods, Shelton is the more versatile defensive back of the two." What makes him special? "He has ability to play corner, thanks to his quick hips and backpedal, but also able to play safety with tremendous coverage awareness and hitting ability. His ability to play either spot should get him on the field early," said Huffman. THE OTHER schools Shelton has talked to most of late are Oregon State, Nebraska, Arizona and UCLA. "UCLA, I don't know if they've offered yet, I have to check on that, but Nebraska offered…Oregon State is my leader as of right now. I felt welcome when I was there on my visit. Everything is telling me yes about them, but I want to see what else is out there," said Shelton. Shelton said he plans on making his decision around Signing Day in February.
