BREAKING: Cougs land in-state OL
Sam Flor (6-4, 285) went crimson this weekend while on his official visit to Washington State. "I just really liked the whole feel of the place -- I liked all the coaches, the family feel, the academics...I had a really good meeting with the honors college and the engineering program," said Flor. Flor, a first team Metro Mountain Division tackle this past season as a junior, carries a 3.81 GPA in a curriculum that features honors classes, and WSU's academics were a key factor in his decision. "The academics part, that surprised me in a good way," said Flor. Flor at O'Dea pass blocks for maybe five percent of a game, he said, and he's looking forward to studying under the tutelage of WSU line coach Steve Morton. "I talked to coach Morton and coach (Paul) Wullf about their plans for me and they see me as a guard or center, definitely one of the inside three. Coach Wulff, he sees me there at center, I think because that's where he played," said Flor. Flor had partial offers from some Ivy League schools and was also hearing increasingly from "pretty much all the Northern Pac-12 schools," he said. "But now I can just focus on my senior year and do the best I can for my team," he said. The official visit itself, beyond the academics, was top notch, said Flor. "The college town atmosphere really appealed to me," said Flor. "I like having everything close by...I thought the game was promising, (Jeff) Tuel going down was worrisome but the No. 2 guy showed he can do a good job and they probably could have scored a lot more points if they wanted. "John Fullington was my player host, I had a really good time visiting with him, and Tana Pritchard too." Sam Flor profile Flor becomes the 13th known commitment in the 2012 class, joining OG/C Denzell Dotson, OT B.J. Salmonson, WR Rashad Jackson, CB Vershad Jackson, WR Travis Gardner, DT Maurice Bennett, RB Terrell Davis, S Taylor Taliulu, QB Austin Apodaca, MLB Jordan Pulu, S David Bucannon and WR Dalen Jones. The Cougs are projected to take 19-20 for the 2012 class when Signing Day arrives in February. NOTABLE NOTE: Flor's mom is a Coug as is his grandfather.
