Chris Blackwell is a standout cornerback prospect from Olympia HS in Orlando.
Cougar recruiting: The latest from Florida
"He did not commit, he could be close (to an offer). He was on Facebook and he was just messing around with Henry Eaddy and Isiah Myers -- they're all really good friends. But no, he did not commit," Olympia High coach Bob Head told CF.C.
Blackwell has not yet gained a WSU offer, said Head, but he is assuredly in the crimson orbit of area recruiter Chris Ball and the WSU staff.
"They're on him. He's a player -- he's 5-11, 190, runs a legit 4.5 in the 40," said Head. "He's real physical…he's a real tough kid, very strong. He can change directions, he's tough as nails.
"I can definitely see him at Washington State (eventually), especially with two of his best friends being there and with them telling him how much they love it."
Blackwell had been a running back and receiver at Olympia, and last year he also spot-played at safety. Moving to cornerback this spring, he dominated, said Head, who added that WSU likes him at the CB spot.
In addition to WSU, Blackwell is seeing increasing interest from South Florida, SMU, Florida International and several others, said Head.
"Chris Ball and the WSU staff do a really nice job down here. I really wouldn't be surprised at all to see him up there for those guys next year," said Head.
Five Floridians are on the Cougar roster -- Eaddy, Myers, Darryl Monroe and C.J. Mizell, with Spencer Waseem slated to join the Cougs this summer in advance of fall camp.
