PULLMAN -- Hey Cougfans! It’s that time of year! Summer in Pullman, let the countdown to fall camp begin. Guys started getting back to campus this past weekend and a few trickled in earlier this week.
We are finally ready to get our summer workouts going and take one step closer to kicking off the 2011 season.
This is a pivotal period of development for us as a team and I think guys understand that and are ready to see what we can do. As of right now, we’re working out in the mornings and based off the energy so far from the first week, it is safe to stay we’ve hit the ground running.
The quarterbacks are organizing the offensive workouts which we’ll start this weekend and after knocking the dust off our operations, we’ll most likely get the 7-on-7 drills going in a couple weeks. The defense is also planning their evening workouts a couple times a week and should be running smoothly as a unit once we get skelly going.
Rather than going home after the semester ended I remained in Pullman for the month of May, along with a number of teammates to take the first session of summer courses and working out.
We had a great month and it was especially enjoyable for me to watch and work beside guys like
Jordan Pu’u-Robinson
and
Jared Byers
. Both aren’t letting their previous knee injuries slow them down and are putting in extra work to make sure they’re on schedule to be back on the field for fall.
The majority of guys went home for May and although they were away from WSU, it was obvious once they got back in town that they had put in the necessary hard work to come back ready to take the next step in our summer training.
Jeff Tuel
put on some solid weight, and
Alex Hoffman-Ellis
is looking big as ever.
Other guys were also visibly bigger or in good shape, but it was great to see two team leaders like Jeff and Alex come back and set the standard for the younger guys who are starting their first summer in Pullman.
I’ll be doing my best to update you as the summer progresses, answer any questions I can from CF.C posters on the boards and keep you guys in the loop of how we’re looking on the field and in the weight room.
Go Cougs!
Marshall
NOTABLE NOTE:
Cougar safety
Tyree Toomer
will be providing CF.C readers with a look at the defensive side of the ball this summer -- look for his first entry early next week or sooner.
Cougar quarterback
Marshall Lobbestael
hails from Oak Harbor, where he was named the 2006 state Class 4A Player of the Year by the Associated Press and Seattle Times after leading Oak Harbor High to its first-ever state championship game. During the course of his Cougar career, he has earned a Pac-10 offensive player weekly award and has started six games while playing in 20.
