BREAKING: Cougs land 3-star trench mauler
I actually committed tonight," said Tuliaupupu. "Just a couple hours ago, I was talking to Washington State and I committed. A big part was just the overall environment, I felt I could be there and really enjoy it for the next 4-5 years. The people there were just really nice people."
Tuliaupupu said WSU will bring him in as a defensive tackle but that he also might get a long look inside on the offensive line once he gets to Pullman later this summer. He said he has no preference between offense and defense.
Recruiting coordinator and TEs coach Rich Rasmussen, and o-line coach Steve Morton, were the two Wazzu coaches he spent the most time with this weekend.
"Coach Rasmussen, Coach Morton, I liked them a lot. They were straight up with me on everything," Tuliaupupu said. "They said they liked me as a player because I play with great pad level. I play low to the ground and don't stop."
TULIAUPUPU, OUT OF Claremont, Calif., about 30 miles east of Los Angeles, had other offers that included Kansas, SJSU, UTEP, New Mexico and Wyoming. The "preview" he got about Pullman didn't match up with what he saw and experienced this weekend.
"The thing I wasn't expecting was, other coaches from other schools told me there was nothing to do there at Washington State, that it was small and that I wouldn't like it. But I found it to be the opposite, I really enjoyed it there, and that (tight-knit community) feel," said Tuliaupupu.
Tuliaupupu said he bonded with the WSU players early on, and then he asked them for the inside scoop.
"I asked them about the school and what the coaches were really like. And they gave it to me straight. I really liked what I heard, a whole lot," said Tuliaupupu.
