Future Cougar QB Clements still on fire

CODY CLEMENTS

A WEEK AFTER helping clinch a share of the Freeway League title for La Habra High, quarterback Cody Clements rocketed the Highlanders toward the playoffs on Friday with a 50-9 regular-season win over Sunny Hills. Clements' work was tidy: 7-of-10 passing for 3 touchdowns and 147 yards. For the season, Clements is completing 65 percent of his passes.

And get this: He's thrown 20 TD passes and just one interception.

That lone pick came a week ago when La Habra routed Troy 59-14. Clements was 9-of-12 passing in that game for 4 TDs and 221 yards.

Clements is the No. 61-rated high school senior quarterback prospect in the nation. He verbally committed in July to play his college ball at Washington State.

On the season, Cody Clements has completed 100 of 153 aerials for 1,626 yards in eight games (he missed two with a knee injury).

LaHabra, which is 5-0 in league play and 7-3 overall, heads to the CIF playoffs next week. This season marks the Orange County school's fourth straight league title.

A year ago, Clements led LaHabra to the CIF-SS Southwest Division title, their third straight. He threw for 2,150 yards on 120-of-191 passing, with 29 touchdowns and five picks. He also ran for five touchdowns.
